Artist's Mission

Over the past 25 years I have worked with many materials. I keep coming back to wood. Mastering other materials and trades gives me greater appreciation for wood. My work creates a raw connection to this natural material and resource.

Wood/trees are a most valued renewable resource. They are timekeepers – historians – shelter – energy – food – air – weather … Tree technology enabled people to explore, cross-oceans, exchange ideas, trade goods and wage war. I work with local municipalities and private landowners to collect the trees that inspire my work.

Time is measured in “Gigabytes,” my work reminds you that some things just take time and tenacity … the formation of a volcanic island, the growth of an ancient redwood, a spiders web or a beehive. As a designer my approach is very much the same. I create a timeless, functioning natural environments. I work closely with the owner to develop an architecture and narrative as relevant as it is unique. It is increasingly important to provide true organic design, materials and hand craftsmanship to the world of cloning, mass production, mass design and choreographed environments.

My work is not opposed to contemporary design, materials, time and lifestyle, but enhances the overall living experience … contemporary in design, natural in materials and function.

There is no judgment in my philosophy. I simply feel as technology moves forward at a blistering speed – the human experience wants/needs to be reminded of their natural world, humble beginnings and vital link to trees.

If the trees go we go! Act local think global!
